The Training Workshop on Noise and Nonlinearities in Mechanical resonators, NEMS-BARCELONA, will be hosted in the center of Barcelona (Spain) during May 28 and June 1, 2012. The focus will lie on noise and nonlinear properties of NEMS; the workshop is geared towards carbon based resonators (graphene and nanotubes) as well as microfabricated resonators.
The workshop is limited to 35 participants in order to facilitate exchanges during the presentations. Since an increasing number of groups with diverse backgrounds are choosing to study nanotube/graphene resonators, the idea is to have tutorial-like talks rather than presentations of current research.
The workshop will be centered on a set of five lectures by Mark Dykman (MSU). The motivation that decided us to organize this workshop is to have an introduction by Mark on noise and nonlinearities in harmonic oscillators where the physics is explained in an intuitive way.
In addition to the daily lectures by Mark, a few other speakers will give tutorial lectures on related contemporary topics. The speakers will be Pertti Hakonen, Jim Hone, Andreas Isacsson, Ron Lifshitz, Michael Roukes, Herre van der Zant, Warner Venstra, Guillermo Villanueva, and Hiroshi Yamaguchi.
